Congratulations to Karlo and the whole team at Ascomm in Croatia for this month’s installation!

As a passionate film enthusiast, the client wished to transform part of his office into a home cinema, where he could watch his impressive collection of movies. Used as a space to escape from work, the sound and image quality needed to be flawless, and the system easy to use. The space came with its own set of challenges – large windows, several radiators and apartments above, making this project the perfect challenge.

Artcoustic was the first choice when choosing the speakers for this 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos configuration. The high sensitivity and dynamics provide clarity of sound and a unique listening experience.

Artcoustic Spitfire 16-8s, 4-2s and Control 3 Subwoofers are subtly hidden behind the acoustically transparent screen and specialised seating was provided by Belgian brand, RaSike. The cinema features ‘Screen Research’ 4K projection with a Sony VPL-VW870 4K HDR laser projector.

Special emphasis was placed on room design and sound isolation, to give the best possible acoustics and allow the audio system to reach its full potential. Since there were apartments above the space, sound isolation was high on the priority list.

Specially designed wall panels allowed the team at Ascomm to hide the acoustic elements, so they did not dominate the space and the project featured a Crestron system enabling the lighting, heating, cooling and ventilation to be remotely controlled.

Designing and specifying for a cinema like this is extremely challenging and technical, as every design decision impacts the next. Where the seats are positioned, screen size, image brightness, loudspeaker positioning and dynamic range are just some of the key elements to consider, all of which will hugely affect the overall experience.
